Introduction to Executive Career Coaching with Career Conversations

What is Executive Career Coaching?

Executive career coaching is a type of coaching commonly used to help individuals in management or leadership positions advance their careers, achieve their career goals, and maximize their potential.

What are Career Conversations?

Career Conversations are structured discussions between me and my clients within Executive Career Coaching sessions. They cover career aspirations, challenges, and how, where, and when clients can achieve their goals and purpose.

A Career Conversation weaves between coaching and mentoring, whichever is needed at a given point in time. It takes place in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Sometimes I will recommend the use of an assessment or psychometric tool to validate the findings of some of our conversations.

What does a typical Career Conversation look like?

Some of the topics we will walk through together include:

    • Understanding yourself – Personal SWOT analysis
    • Find your life values, goals, and purpose
    • Personal branding
    • Exploring your career options and development
    • Negotiation skills
    • Becoming effective at networking
    • Developing an effective job search strategy
    • Creating or enhancing your resume
    • Building and optimizing your LinkedIn profile
    • Identify resources to include in your career success toolbox

At some time during a Career Conversation we may have to have a courageous conversation to address an “elephant in the room” that is holding you back from progressing in your career journey. The elephant may be a past experience, spouse, family member, boss, or even yourself.

Please expect some “tough love” from me if I believe you need to hear an inconvenient truth to deal with an obstacle hindering your career success.

What else will you receive with Executive Career Coaching?

  • Understanding your work values and applying them to your career search
  • How to do goal setting
  • How to develop and manage a work-life balance
  • Job search resources
  • Using a decision-making flow to help you understand why you make decisions, and to help you manage the decision-making process.

Confidentiality during Executive Career Coaching and Career Conversations

All Career Conversations are confidential, unless I think that I may have to discuss a specific issue with another subject matter expert. I will request your permission before I do that.

Who is Executive Career Coaching with Career Conversations for?

Executive Career Coaching is primarily for professionals seeking a career change or who may be looking to rejoin the workforce after spending some time away from it. I welcome inquiries from organizations that are preparing their workforce for organizational change involving transition and outplacement.

Access to my network

One of the most challenging parts of a job search is building a credible network and getting access to hiring managers, business owners, headhunters, and recruiters. I provide my clients with access to my extensive network of business connections. I can also provide referrals to my connections, where appropriate.

What if I have medical needs?

Job loss, death, divorce. and other high-impact life events can have a negative impact on one’s mental wellness and job search. Physical conditions may also pose challenges to progress. Please inform me if you have any mental health (e.g., clinically diagnosed depression, anxiety, etc.) or physical health (e.g., hypertension, dyslexia, etc.) conditions. I can then take these into account and adjust my approach during our Career Conversations. I have access to an excellent group of certified counselors, psychologists, and psychotherapists that I can refer you to for help and support during your career journey.
